This week’s blog “Run Your Own Race” is up on my website: www.fortherunofit.info
I really enjoyed my race yesterday, even though I was DFL. 😜
I love to compete with myself! What about you? Do you race to beat yourself, or everyone else? 🏊🏻♀️🚴🏻♀️🏃🏽♀️😄 #fortherunofit#isalife#goodnutrition#itri#tridot
Two more weeks until IRONMAN 70.3 Steelhead!!! Today was a "race rehearsal" day with a long ride followed with a 35-40 min run. I knew that today, like all long days, my nutrition (what I eat before, definitely DURING, and after) would be super important if I wanted to get the most out of my body!
My bottles are filled with water and an endurance drink that has the carbs, salt, and hydration I need. The gels you see taped to my bike have simple carbs, amino acids, and salt that my body soaks up as I keep pushing. I tape them to my bike this way so I can rip them open while I ride and take one down 😋. Empty wrappers get stuffed in my trishort #dontlitter . 👍🏻
As I have learned in the past, not taking in enough hydration or food = feeling 🥴. Part of a race rehearsal is not just "going the distance", but dialing in my nutrition. I have everything I need... but none of it does any good if I do not take it when I need it - waiting until I feel I need it is too late. I have to follow a plan.
Life is like this. The Bible mentions how when we are spiritually young we need someone to teach us God’s Word... we need "milk" and as we mature we can take in "solid food".
For me, I can tell when I am spiritually hungry... sometimes it’s because I have waited to long. I also can tell when I am living in to the potential God created me for because I am taking in His Word, and am talking/praying with Him.
I’m thankful for the spiritual parallels that pop up in my training. This too, brings me strength! 🙏🏻☝🏻🙌🏻 I wish this for you as well.
I AM feeling READY! Excited for the race, and super excited to see our fundraising go to the Rayder Den! Thanks again for all your support!

Great ride at the speedway spin today. Weather was awesome and got to ride with some great friends. #tridot

Ignore my flamingo pose 😂😂 Momma and I had a blast at Jerry Clifton’s Rainsville Freedom Run!! I shaved 2:20 off last year’s 5K!! It’s a tough and FAST crew that runs this every year, so I was thrilled with my top 10 AG placing (out of 65, just in AG). Thank you Coach Ryan Tibball for the pep n prep talk! Up next: CMSP Sprint Tri in Crossville! @tridotsystem keeps me improving!! #iamtridot#tridotambassador#tridot
I spent such a beautiful morning swimming and running in Hopkinton At Against the Tide aquathlon today. My biggest accomplishment - my first DFL! 😂😂 I didn’t let it worry me at all and I’m actually pretty happy with my time. More about that in my blog tomorrow... 😜🏊🏻♀️🏃🏽♀️ #fortherunofit#isalife#goodnutrition#itri#tridot
Rolling into the weekend like....
Trinona was so fun last Sunday, I’m really looking forward to my next at @lifetimetri Minneapolis. Hopefully get some redemption on last year’s run.
This week was overall pretty good. Recovery and assessments went well. Improved my 5k by 20 seconds or so and only dropped 5 watts on my FTP after a race week and a hard run. #TriDot score didn’t even decrease with the decrease so pretty happy.
Next up brick and long run this weekend and then some R&R with the family.

Can't believe we'll be parents in just a few months. Half way there 😳
2 wks since this goal was achieved. Still in awe of this sport and the mental fortitude one needs in order to not just compete but to FINISH. An unexpected panic attack on the shortened swim, a flat tire, massive leg cramps on the 3,800 ft gain bike course, and more cramps on the run were just some of the challenges endured in an 8 hr span. All I kept saying to myself was ‘finish, finish, finish!!!’. And so I did and was able to meet my wife and kids at the finish line and to share this moment with them. I could not have done this alone and once again a huge shout out to @tridotsystem for spot on training plan. Also the support out on the course was amazing, from the Police, volunteers, and spectators. #tridotambassador#imtridot#tifosioptics#im703ct#newtonrunning#kestrelbikes#roka#tridot#infinitambassador
First run since my marathon. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Switched the run to this morning after strength training since it wasn't 91 degrees outside. Will finish the run tonight. Only suppose to be 80 degrees after work. Turning focus to swimrun training. #iamtridot#tridot#tridotambassador#tridotsystem#swimruntraining .
I’ll get you next time sub-22min 5k! Assessment week courtesy of @tridotsystem and more positive progress on the run. Running feels pretty good, but I know I have some work to do on getting my bike endurance up. FTP test up tomorrow; that one should be interesting.
#TriDot new FTP. Didn’t think I had it in me after Cherohala Challenge last weekend but set a bike dot high tonight. Sweet!

12 years ago I signed up to start training for my first marathon. I was in a really dark, lonely place and running became the first healthy decision I made for myself in a couple years. Running brought a series of other things into my life I never could have predicted - discipline, incredible friendships, nutritional awareness, fun travel, a platform to raise money for causes I am passionate about, deep gratitude for being able-bodied, and ultimately a relationship with God.

26.2 miles of San Francisco hills humbled me in new ways, leaving me to clearly see my need for something greater than myself. God not only met me on those hills, but continued to meet me mile after mile in the months and years that followed as I continued to lace up my sneakers.

It’s hard to put to words what running has done for me - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Running has strengthened me. Running has empowered me. Running has helped me address mental health struggles. Running has quite literally saved my life. And so I continue to run in hopes that it will save others lives as well.

A run has never returned me exactly the same. I go, I grow. I pray it does the same for you. Happy Global Running Day!

“There is something magical about running; after a certain distance, it transcends the body. Then a bit further, it transcends the mind. A bit further yet, and what you have before you, laid bare, is the soul.” K. Armstrong
I wanted to finish #imtx in the same time that I did last year or better, but yesterday was just about beating the Ironman course not PRing. During the swim, I got hit 4 times in the face-my goggles got knocked off three times by super aggressive men then a man kicked me in the teeth so hard I was worried he knocked them out. It disoriented me so bad. The bike was all wind and heat-I was on the merge of being dehydrated. I was faster on the bike compared to last year even though they added 3 more miles. And for the run-my heart rate was just so out of whack from fighting on the bike and I just didn’t have it in me. I walked and talked with a few Hissyfitters-which was nice. By the time I finished I was just angry and wanted to go home. Everything considering, I think I’ll do this again cause I don’t think a race can be as bad as this one...

New 5k PR! Crazy thing is it even happened outside of a race in cold rain and wind, not ideal conditions.
When I started running 3 years ago, my first mile took over 15 minutes. I never could have dreamed of doing a single mile at a 7:17 pace, let alone a full 5k.
If you’re a data nerd like me or even if you’re not, highly recommend taking a look at @tridotsystem. The workouts haven’t been easy, but making improvements definitely makes it worth it.
